What is CPD?
CPD (continuing professional development) is the process of continuously maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and competence to improve your performance at work.
Your commitment to CPD will make sure your knowledge does not become outdated. CPD’s will assist you in becoming more effective and successful in your chosen career. CPD is any activity that results in a significant learning outcome that is relevant to your professional role. There are two elements to CPD’s:
- Formal (e.g. courses, branch meetings, discussion groups, study for qualifications),
- Informal (e.g. reading, internet research, on-the-job learning).
CPD is something you’ll almost certainly already be doing as part of your everyday working life.
NB: CPD is not about clocking up sufficient hours on any old thing course covering things you already know.
Who needs to undertake CPD?
CPD is a requirement of most professional bodies. CPD is mandatory for you if you’re registered as a member in practice, or a fellow member. However, even if you’re not in these categories, we still strongly advise you undertake CPD training due to the great benefits they bring
